Proceedings of the Irkutsk Missionary Congress, Irkutsk, 1910

The publication presented here is the journal of the Missionary Congress, which took place in the Siberian city of Irkutsk from July 23–26, 1910. The publication includes a list of participants and a description of each session of the proceedings. The sessions included: the mission among the Irkutsk and Transbaikal Buriats; the mission of Western Siberia; preparing missionaries; the support and administration of missions and methods of influence among the pagan and apostate members of the church; the mission in the Far East; and anti-dissenter and anti-sectarian missions. The purpose of the Congress, according to one of its most active participants, Archpriest Ioann Vostorgov (1867–1918), was to allow Siberian missionaries to discuss the common problems and challenges in their work and be inspired by church leaders in the missionary field. Published in Irkutsk in 1910, the journal is preserved in the collections of the National Library of Russia in Saint Petersburg. It was digitized for the Meeting of Frontiers digital library project in the early 2000s.
