Summary

  • This map of Damba Island, Kyagwe County, Mengo District, Buganda Province in Uganda Protectorate (present-day Uganda) was issued in 1961 by the Uganda Lands and Surveys Department. It was compiled and drawn by the Directorate of Overseas Surveys, Department of Technical Cooperation in the British government, based on field survey data and on aerial photography carried out in 1955. Damba is located in the northwestern corner of Lake Victoria, south of Kampala and east of Entebbe. It is bisected by the equator, which defines the northern edge of the map. The map shows the southwestern part of Damba. Rocks, points, and other natural features, including swampland and forest, are indicated. Also visible on the map is part of Kome Island, to the south of Damba Island, and a number of smaller islands to the south and southeast. An index grid in the lower left identifies adjoining sheets to this detailed survey map. The scale is 1:50,000.
