This photograph of the tomb of Aḥmad Shāh Durrānī (circa 1723–72) is from an album of rare historical photographs depicting people and places associated with the Second Anglo-Afghan War. Aḥmad Shāh Durrānī established the Durrani Empire (1747–1818) and is regarded as the father of the modern Afghan state. His repeated invasions of India greatly extended his domains.
